.synopsis...upper level low pressure over the west will continue the
cooling trend through thursday with temperatures well below seasonal
averages. a deeper marine layer will cause low clouds and local fog
west of the mountains during the nights and mornings with partial
afternoon clearing near the beaches. warmer with a shallower marine
layer toward the weekend under weak high pressure.

orange...southwest san bernardino and west riverside counties.

.short term (tonight-thursday)...skies were clear this evening
except for areas of stratus along the coast moving onshore. the 00z
nkx sounding had an inversion based near 2100 ft...about 500 ft
higher than 24 hours previous. dry sw winds aloft. increasing
onshore gradients to the e with 8-9 mb san-ipl.

an upper low off of wrn canada will move s into the pac nw with a
trough digging into srn ca. this will continue a cooling trend with
a deeper marine layer. the coolest day in most areas will be
thursday with max temps about 10 to 20 degrees below seasonal
averages. there could be some record low max temps each day.

the marine layer will deepen with an intermittent coastal eddy. low
clouds and local fog extending farther inland each night. stratus
will get into the lower coastal mountain slopes tuesday and
wednesday nights. stronger onshore flow will cause local gusty winds
in the mountains and deserts during the afternoons and evenings.

.long term (friday-monday)...the trough will move e and be followed
by weak ridging and then weak troughing but generally higher
heights. this will bring gradual warming and a shallower marine
layer. however...max temps will still be a little below seasonal
averages by monday despite the warming.

.aviation...
070230z...marine stratus along the immediate coast and offshore
should spread inland to near the foothills again tonight with bases
1.5-2k ft msl and tops to near fl030 by morning. widespread mvfr
vis...with areas of ifr and lower will develop on the higher coastal
terrain and far inland near the mountain foothills after 08z. cigs
and vis will clear back to the coast btwn 17z and 20z tue...leaving
vfr conditions for the balance of the day...except along the
immediate coast where stratus and haze may linger through the
afternoon. all taf sites should be vfr for the afternoon. above the
marine stratus layer...vis will be unrestricted and skies mostly
clear...except for patchy clouds above fl070.
